Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.”

Pride and Prejudice is such a great book. Its first line (above) is so powerful and funny as it sets the novel’s ironic tone. On the 28th of this month it celebrates 200 years and with it over 20 million copies sold. It has also encouraged the writing of similar conventional books, hilarious TV shows and moving films. Why do we love it so much? I think this is because it is so timeless and the satire Austen employs has a way of relating to every single girl.

Greatest love story ever?

I agree.
